Greenmind Development – The Cottesmore Story Horse Farms at Cottesmore

Greenmind Development

A love for horses, homes and beautiful land is in the Sutherland blood.

Horses

Scott and Ann Sutherland's love for horses began with a Welsh pony named Marvelous. This adorable pony captured the family's hearts, especially those of their daughters' Kelly and Kari, spurring their lifelong passion for horses. What started out as casual riding, with a lesson here and there, quickly turned into a family commitment to compete Hunter/Jumpers. Kelly even rose to earn Captain of the USC's Intercollegiate Equestrian Team. The family couldn't pass up the opportunity to move closer to South Carolina horse country from their New Hampshire residence. They've called South Carolina their home for more than 20 years.

Homes

Renovating old homes and reselling them began has a hobby for the couple when the children were young. The duo learned the ins and outs of the business and became highly successful transforming run-down houses into beautifully charming restored homes. So successful, in fact, that Scott decided to leave his long-standing position as president of an engineering firm. Scott dove headfirst into his new career by managing several eco-friendly developments in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In 1988 he took a management position at the Tidewater Golf and Plantation planned community, now named one of the top 100 public courses in America.

Land

After 40 years of owning horses and planning eco-friendly homesites, the time was right for right for a new project close to their hearts. While relaxing and enjoying retirement after their recent move to the Camden area, the Sutherlands by happenstance discovered Cottesmore's breathtakingly beautiful landscape that was destined to be destroyed by destructively-small zoning restrictions. Because the couple couldn't stand to see the beautiful landscape with such a vivid history broken up, they decided to buy Cottesmore to make sure that the land and its historic live oaks were protected. From the start, the land has been meticulously planned in a way that homeowners and horse lovers can and will continue to enjoy its rolling hills, amazing trees and bridle trails for years to come. For the Sutherlands postponing retirement for a while is worth it, knowing that Cottesmore families will treasure the land as much as they do.
