Camden's mild weather and excellent footing allow for a spectacular trail ride almost every day. Nestled within the gates of Cottesmore, there are seven miles of open tree-lined trails that connect to elaborate bridle paths throughout the county. Generous property easements allow riders to travel between property lines to get to and from paths and stop at the neighborhood equine rest area for a drink and some shade. While the community has a security gate limiting car access, area riders have the freedom to explore the green tree-canopied paths that have been around for generations.
There are two local Timed Trail Ride events a year: The Spring Fling and The Fall Fling.
How It Works: Judges ride the course ahead of competitors and develop an ideal hunt time and seal the time in secret envelope. Participating riders embark on the trail on their pretend hunt: walking, trotting and cantering in anticipation of what they deem the perfect hunt conditions. As riders cross the finish line, times are logged. During a celebration barbeque, the secret hunt time is revealed and winners with the closest time are announced.
